Student’s Choice Dance Educator Award

NYU 1951

The Martha Hill Dance Fund is extremely proud to announce the student nominated dance educators and administrators for the premiere presentation of the STUDENTS’ CHOICE DANCE EDUCATOR AWARD. Nominations were made in the form of an essay detailing educator’s excellence, passion and commitment not only to the dance field, but also to his/her students as said excellence and commitment emulates that of examples set by Martha Hill. MHDF believes the nominees, hailing from six states and institutions, are indeed ALL winners!

Students campaigned and voted (one vote per student) for one choice. The individual with the largest number of votes receives the award and an honorarium of $500 from MHDF. Voting ended October 31, 2012 at midnight!

Here are the results!

Welcome

Thank you for visiting our website. The Martha Hill Dance Fund was established to honor, perpetuate, and reward Martha Hill’s commitment to dance education and performance internationally. As an educator, administrator, artistic director, and visionary for dance as a performing art, Martha Hill established an unprecedented standard for excellence in the field.

Martha Hill was born in East Palestine, Ohio on December 1, 1900. She attended the Battle Creek Normal School of Physical Education in Battle Creek, Michigan, graduating in 1920. She took over the position of dance instructor, teaching ballet and Swedish gymnastics for the next three years. In 1923, she was hired as dance instructor at Kansas State Teachers College. Hill taught there for three years, moving to New York City in 1926.
